Characteristics an Evil SEO Company

Do you what is ailing the SEO industry at this moment? No, no it is the Penguin or Panda updates. They are doing a great job by demolishing those common SEO myths that visibility can be achieved by doing some absurd tasks like directory submissions, article syndications etc. No, what is plaguing the SEO industry is the reputation. Its reputation is getting tanked everyday because of some people who are masquerading as SEO professionals and fleecing customers in the name of offering SEO services. These snake oil sellers are giving the entire SEO industry a bad name and creating loads of confusion among those who are in genuine need of online marketing services. So, it is becoming all the more difficult for small business owners who are looking for a genuine SEO company to get more leads from their website. Though there is no such hard and fast rule to tell which SEO company is genuine and which one is another Sneak Oil Seller, SEO sneak oil sellers have some characteristics that set them apart from the genuine service providers. Wondering what they could be, here they go:

You get a mail from an SEO Company

Great SEO companies never send you email or spam your inbox out of blue. They know how to market their products and for that reasons they know they will never resort to such menial things. So, whenever you get an email that says that your website is not listed in major search engines or your website is missing out on a large number of visitors, you should be apprehensive about the company and its intension. In majority of cases, you do not even have to submit your website to search engines; they are quite capable of locating your website.

They Guarantee You First page rank

Some SEO Sneak Oil sellers go extreme and they claim that they have personals associated with Google. Though it may sound ludicrous to you but some people do fall in prey. So be aware of these nonsensical claims. Sometimes, they claim that they can make your website top in the SERP in some competitive keywords. This is simply misleading. No SEO Company can claim that it can make your website appear in top in some premium keywords. Just stay away from them.

They are not willing to tell you what They are doing

If the SEO Company that you have hired is genuine, they will not mind sharing you all the details they are doing. But SEO Companies that employ unethical practices like creating doorway pages only for the sake of boosting the rank of the main money making website or stuffing keywords in the web pages, creating pages only for the sake of building links etc. You need to press them to show you what exactly they are doing.

They want to Insert a Link of their website

You need to avoid those SEO companies who try to convince that submitting your website in thousands of directories and article directories will eventually help your website securing higher ranking. Participating in link scheme is the last thing that you should do. Google has already waged a war against the blog networks and link scheme and therefore, there is no such reason why you should be making your website vulnerable to algo updates. And never agree to their proposal to add a link back to the SEO company from the footer section of your website.

Check where your money is going

Some SEO Companies are into the habit of misguiding people by combining PPC and organic web strategy. They try to misguide people by showing that they actually control the search engine by making their website at the top of some less competitive keywords in Google Adwords or any other marketing platform. So don’t fall prey to this kind of claims. You need to figure out where your money is actually going. Temporary top spot is not going to save you in one way or the other.

Tips for Successful Post-Panda Internet Marketing

Panda and Penguin are close friends. They are tools of Google that designed to re-organizing Google ranking system, reduce the rank of low-quality website. Last two days, we have a post on how Google Penguin penalize a website for overdoing in SEO. This guest post will give you some tips to sucessful in new era of Google.

The last two years have seen some major changes in the world of internet marketing. Google's Penguin and Panda updates have altered the SEO landscape considerably. Here are a few tips to help you succeed at post-Panda online marketing.

Prior to the Penguin and Panda updates, it was possible to rank a website using spun content, directory submissions and automated link-building techniques. Those days are long gone and now you need to have high-quality content and a natural link profile if you want your site to do well in the SERPs.

Marketing Through Quality Content

Content marketing is not a new concept, but it is enjoying a surge in popularity at the moment. Before Penguin and Panda, many webmasters avoided content marketing because it seemed like a lot of work and they knew that they could see good results just by hiring an SEO company to do some automated directory submissions and submit a few spun articles to the popular article farms for them. It didn't make sense to pay more for good content and high-quality links if you could get the same results by focusing on quantity instead.

Now that Google has improved its ranking algorithm, those low-quality links are useless and every good SEO Company knows this. If you want your site to rank well today, you need to build a site full of useful and interesting content. Google appreciates unique content that is relevant to the topic of your website and will love your website even more if it is frequently updated. Not only will unique, fresh and interesting content get bonus points from Google, it will also be appreciated by your users. More important, good content will be linked to via social media sites and readers' blogs.

Organic Traffic and Links

Before Google changed its algorithm, link-building strategies focused on acquiring links for the purpose of increasing the target site's Page Rank and improving the site's ranking for specific keywords. Google now picks up on sites that have unnatural-looking link profiles with a lot of links that have similar anchor texts.

Instead of focusing on links for the purpose of page rank, it is better to focus on creating content that people want to link to because they think it is worth sharing. The traffic that your website receives from such links will land on specific pages rather than the home page. In addition, some of those links will be from sites with a loyal readership. Those readers will click on your link and hopefully enjoy the content on your site and choose to come back regularly.

There are no short cuts when it comes to successful internet marketing. Yes, it is possible to buy traffic and see impressive numbers in your statistics, but that traffic will probably consist of bots, or visitors who are not actually interested in your site. If you want to get quality traffic and have people read your posts and buy the products you are selling, you need to work hard. Today, quality content and regular site updates are the secret to success.

How Google Penalize Website with Penguin Update

Seven months ago Google rolled out Penguin update to fight against SEO spammers. A  roactive step from google to clean search engine ranking results from aggressive search engine optimizers trying hard to improve rankings in Google through building the low quality links.

The aftermath of Penguin was a total disaster for small business owners who relied heavily on Google. Recently, a month ago, two small business owners who shut the office down forever. Even after I promised in helping to recover from penguin, these SMEs forced to close business as the nature of business was not allowing run the trade with lack of time limit.

The sole intention behind this post is to educate business owners on the main causes of penguin hit to the websites. The below points answers what tactics and techniques lead to penguin penalty.

Keyword Resemblance in Anchor Text, Title Tag and Web Page:

There is a classical misconception about Penguin update: getting low quality links of same anchor text. Google goes one step further by analyzing the keywords between anchor text and title tag. The co-occurrences of same keyword in web page and anchor text. It’s quite simple for the Google spider to analyze the above. For Example: If you are targeting the keyword Real estate agent in California and the same keyword is mentioned in title tag and repeated many times in web page as well as got many anchor text of the same phrase through low quality sites. Then it’s easy for Google spider to find the pattern of spam.

Not just repeated phrases or keyword stuffing in the web page alone leads to penalty. Keyword stuffing in the web page indicates Google that website has shallow content. But aggressive search engine optimization is more than that. Here search engine optimizers are playing hard with the rules set by Google and not for visitors.

Google won’t penalize the website by analyzing one side of the story. If a webmaster made an offence in all the three aspects: repeated phrases in title tag, web page and anchor text means web master is not ignorant of search engine optimization. Webmaster is well aware of SEO and deliberately optimizing for the sake of ranking. Hence the combination of all the above techniques leads to Penguin penalty.

Usage of Same Content in link building:

This may include one of the panda characteristics but not a panda update. Google won’t manually penalize penguin update for millions of web pages. Google spider must follow a process to identify the certain patterns of fraudulent techniques incorporated by seo. One of the common factors is using same content in multiple websites. And classical example is submitting the title tags and meta description of web page in various directories. This is an easy way for Google to automate for finding the low quality links.

Even seo professionals have used different content other than existing content in web page but same description in many directories is definitely a link building form for the sake of rankings.

One more common spam technique is article marketing. 500 words or same article submitting in many article directories. Here it is easy for Google to find out the same content and same resource box with same anchor texts. It is fine same anchor texts with same bio but articles must be different. With different articles in other websites webmaster is contributing to visitors and in return he is getting links which won’t come under the radar of Penguin penalty.

Google is always smart. But Google also has weakness. It cannot rank manually every websites or cannot penalize every websites. Google need to automate. Once web spam of Google team identifies the common abuse followed by SEO industry it will come up update. Follow the best practices of link building and on page optimization and learn process of the new updates.

How To Become An Expert In Your Industry

One of the keys to growing your presence online, is establishing yourself as an expert in your industry. This can be done in a number of different ways, but all of these ways require networking of some sort. You become an expert, by getting other experts to acknowledge that you are in the same class as them. You can establish yourself as an expert in your own industry by creating high quality and insightful content, answering questions about your industry around the web, and also releasing your own webinars and seminars on a variety of subjects that are related to your overall niche. In doing these things, you prove that you have the knowledge within your industry to become an expert, and are able to establish credibility through the sharing of other information.

High Quality, Insightful Content

The first thing that you need to do to establish yourself as an expert within your industry is to publish high-quality, insightful content on the subject. This content, should not be published on any of the other websites, and should be completely original in nature. Try to analyze the subject as in-depth as possible, and an effort to display the level of knowledge that you have on your industry. The higher-quality the content, the more believable it will be that you are an expert within your industry. Also make sure that you are participating on other websites that are publishing insightful content as well. By linking to insightful content, you not only prove that you can identify worthwhile content to your visitors when you find it, but it allows you to make connections with others that are considered experts.

Answer Questions Where Available

It should also be your goal to answer questions where available. There are number of questions and answers websites online, such as Yahoo Answers, or other industry-specific question and answer websites, in which you can create an account, and answer questions that individuals have about your industry. In doing so, you will build credibility with a range of different people, and have proof that you have been able to help dozens of people with questions about what you do. You can also answer questions over social networks, which can be an excellent way to gain traction with others, as they can see exactly what you have answered.

Webinars and Seminars

nother excellent way to establish yourself as an expert, is to hold either seminars, or online seminars, known as webinars. This allows you to put your knowledge on full display, and also help others to learn information about your industry. Try to plan ahead, and an effort to create as good of a webinar as humanly possible. Make sure that you are answering any common questions are misconceptions that people have about your industry in a straightforward and professional way, and also look for opportunities in which you can promote your website or service through these webinars.

Establishing yourself as an expert in your industry can be very difficult, but with the little bit of hard work and determination, you can prove that you have the knowledge to be considered one, by providing high quality information and helping others to gain knowledge as well.

A complete and comprehensive guide on how to use Google Disavow Link Option

This is guest post by Michael Evans
So, your website has been tanked by the vicious penguin and even after giving your hundred percent to get rid of the spammy links that are making your website bleed, a vast majority of them remain there intact and making your feel totally helpless. But fear not dude, the disavow link is here and hopefully it is going to exonerate you from the sins of your past spammy marketing initiatives that might have probably cost you thousands of SEO dollars. Yeah, yeah it is not that easy otherwise we could have had innumerable number of success stories to share by now. As there is no such great news to relish, we can safely assume that not many people have got benefited from it but that does not necessarily mean that it is not that effective. Nope, probably you do not exactly know how and when to use it [no offense plz]. So, here it goes –

A Little bit of background story

There has been a bit of confusion surrounding the concept of Disavow Link. The building block of web is links; no amount of spam can undo this. So just because a search engine named Google has launched something called – Disavow Link, it does not mean that you should be giving less attention to acquiring links naturally and put all your efforts to monitor and police each and every link that comes along the way and get them down just to be in the good book of Google.

Actually, the concept of online marketing has been hijacked by some shrewd marketers who have been engaged in doing sneaky things to get to the top in some competitive keywords in no time. They were using bulk article submissions, article network sites, massive directory submission and other sneaky stuffs. So, Google has to intervene and now we have got penguin update. But as negative SEO is on the rise and as Google is working on the biggest ever penguin algo update [as news is doing the round], it launches Disavow Link option so that it can avoid the scathing criticism of the webmasters whose websites might be wrongly affected by the upcoming algo shuffle.
Who should be using this tool: As Google is reiterating the fact that this is an advance tool and average webmasters need not have to use this because if used wrongly, it could back fire. So, here are the few hypothetical situations when you should be thinking about giving the Disavow Link a try:

1. Your website has been manually penalized

It sucks when you receive a message in Google webmaster tool about violating Google’s policy or about Link Scheme. But do not jump at the gun at the sight of this message. This message only means that your website is manually checked by human quality raters at Google and they have raised their flag after checking the backlink profile of your website.

However, this does not mean that you need to remove all the links and turn the clock around. Nope, do not make such foolish thing because you will just be shooting yourself in the feet. You need to create a list as mentioned below:

URL
PR
Anchor text
Moz rank
Type
Content Quality
Example.com
2
Exact matched
20
blog
Poor quality
Socialbookmark.com
1
Long tail
30
Social bookmark
NA

Create an excel file just like above. Add column like – PR, anchor text, Type of website, quality of the content, number of outbound links, Moz etc. You are free to add more columns. When you are done with this you need to figure out which links are affecting your website and which links are adding value to your website. Try to remove as many bad links pointing to your website as possible before, you send a reconsideration request. When you are done with this, the time is up for the Disavow links option.

Select the website you want to apply this Disavow link option.

Click on the red button and it will then ask you to upload a txt file containing list of sites that you wish to disavow.

The format of the text is plain and simple. All you got to do is to create a txt file and it may look like the following -

#This is spammy website, I do want to disaow links coming from this site:
domain:littlespammywebsite.com

#This article directory sucks, I asked them to remove the links, but they did not
Text starting with # will be comment and Google will not be taken into consideration. If you wish to discard all the links coming from a single website, you can use the following parameter – domain:websitename.com .

Just make sure that you are keeping the file short. It should not be more than 2MB.

Just want to reterate that if your website is affected by manual penalty, you need to do both, try Disavow Link option and wait few weeks before sending another reconsideration request.

2. Your website is affected by penguin algorithm

If you saw that the traffic of your website took a plunge after a penguin refresh, you need to clean up the mess as much as possible. Do a background check of the links as I have mentioned above before using the Disavow link option. Since your website has got caught by algorithm update, you need to wait for weeks or probably for months until another penguin refresh goes live.

3. You are a victim of Negative SEO

Sometimes, it might happen that your competitors are doing all they could to hamper the growth of your business. They may be doing sneaky things for your website like – spammy directory submissions, article submissions etc without your being aware of it. In that case, rather than wasting your time and money on trying to get rid of those links, you should be using this tool to make Google aware of the fact that you are not responsible for the crap links built by your competitors.
I am happy to share this information. Let me know how fare with these tips.

The Common Misconceptions about SEO

While Search Engine Optimization is riding the success wave almost everywhere on the internet,
there are more than enough misconceptions about SEO as well. Let’s separate fact from fiction.

1. Do it right once and that’s it

Simply put, SEO is using well placed phrases in the content of your website so as to get the best
rankings in search engines. Content is definitely key and any business or company needs to ensure
that its content is well written, cogent and dependable. But content is not the only thing and so to
write great content and sit back waiting for things to happen will not work in SEO. This is an ongoing
process and needs to be monitored regularly so that you can get more from the process.

2. More content, less design

While SEO does focus on great content, it is a misconception to think that you need to sacrifice
design and aesthetics to be more visible in a search engine. In fact SEO employs not just words
but many other aspects that you might use on the site to drive traffic your way. This could include
something as simple as menu design, the tabs on your website or even the shopping cart customers
use to store their purchase. The better designed your site, the better it is for you. Besides, good
content cannot make up for a confused and confusing website.

3. Pay per Click works better

One would imagine that the internet would be flooded with lot of information but not much quality
if the company that pays for key phrases has better visibility! Search engines do not care about how
much money you’ve spent but about what quality you deliver. Remember, search engines need to
benefit too! PPC works along with SEO and not as a substitute as SEO.

4. Links are overrated

Believe this misconception at your own peril! Links are important when you want the customers’
visit to your website to culminate in a sale. You have to spend time and effort building backlinks
and ensuring that the health of the links to and from your site is good at all times. Links are not
overrated and are instead valuable resources to help your business grow further.

5. The more the links, the better

If thinking that links are overrated is bad, then thinking that as many links as possible is the key to
good SEO is bad too. Flooding your website with links is counter-productive and only help to confuse
the customer. What you should look for instead is a well thought out bunch of workable links that do
an effective job for you.

6. The in-house technical team can handle SEO

Well this is a tricky one. It depends on how good your technical team is and how busy its members
are. Yes of course SEO is not tough to do because you need ‘simple’ things like ASP, PHP and C++
to program but SEO is not just programming. You need to design it well so it can do its job well. For

this, it is helpful to have a dedicated team of people focusing on it, exclusively.

Watch out for the rumors and half-truths and create SEO that is elegant and effective!

Influence Your Search Position Using Social Media Sites

There are hundreds of factors that the search engines consider when creating their results pages. Web content and links have always been considered important. More recently, the use of social indicators has been highlighted by the likes of Google as a way to identify Author Authority or Author Rank. A lot of attention from social media websites means that an author is obviously well respected within their online community. Therefore, having an active and effective social media profile can help improve your search rankings as well as your social media performance.

Google’s Impact On Social Media

Google has long dreamed of being able to combine its powerful search engine listings with a variety of social results. This universal search is certainly several steps closer than ever before but it remains something of a distant dream. There are, of course, many social indicators that the search engines will use but it makes sense that Google would use data from their own social network, Google+. They have greater control over the information they can access and how they use it. Many believe Google+ already impacts on their SEO and its importance in this respect is only likely to be highlighted more in the future.

Google+

Google+ is the search engine’s first major entry into the social networking arena. They have had previous attempts but on a smaller scale and they are promising and delivering greater interaction between the social network and their search results.

Other Social Media Websites

There are many other social media websites to consider. YouTube is one of the most popular sites in the world and, if you consider it to be a search engine, then it would be the second biggest behind owners Google. It is a social media sharing website and enables those with video content to enjoy another outlet or channel for their creative work.

Examples Of Social Sites

  • Flickr and Picasa enable the sharing of photos while Scribd offers presentation sharing. As well as YouTube, users looking for video sharing sites can use Vimeo and DailyMotion.
  • Digg, StumbleUpon, and NewsVine are what are considered to be social news sites. They allow users to write or syndicate news content and share it with readers.
  • Facebook, Pinterest, and LinkedIn are among the most popular social networks one can access. These often cross the boundaries into other forms of social media websites. Facebook, for example, is also one of the most popular video sharing sites too. • Twitter, while also considered a social network, is a microblogging platform. Tumblr and Plurk are also tagged as being microblogging platforms.
  • Location based social networks like FourSquare and Google Latitude enable users to share their location and even rate or rank the specific establishment they are in. This is a very small sample of the types of social media website that exist. There are some that are highly targeted to small groups of people and offer one very specific service. Mendeley, for example, is a researchers’ social network. Causes, which is actually a Facebook application, is the world’s largest fundraising social media application.

How Social Media Impacts Search

Social media is certainly known to help search rankings. Shares, Likes, and links from such pages are considered social indicators by the search engines and they consider websites with a lot of social indicators to have authority and respect from readers. Some users have already reported that Google+ and Google+1 results can help and has helped increase the ranking of their website.

How To Use Social Media To Your Benefit

Consider your strengths, the type of content you serve, and your target visitors and website users. If you serve video content then you should look to share video. If you want to encourage conversation about the video clips and videos that you share then you should consider Facebook as well as YouTube because this combines the features of a social network and a video sharing website. If you serve news content then NewsVine or another collaborative news website could be your best option.

Social Success

The likes of Dominos Pizza, Dell, and Starbucks are some of the big name companies that have succeeded in the social media arena. Companies are now looking at ways in which to incorporate mobile into their social media. More and more users are accessing social networks like Facebook from their mobile phone and there are many more ways in which users can interact with these sites on mobile platforms. Mobile social media marketing has become increasingly important to those looking to benefit from social traffic.

Setting Your Site Up To Benefit

A full social media marketing campaign can cost a lot of time and effort and for the small business it may not seem like a financially beneficial option. However, the rewards can be exceptional as long as your campaign takes the right form and heads in the right direction. Your website should also be set up so that it benefits your social media campaign. Whether this means offering an online app, giving users easy access to share buttons, or delivering on the promise that you make to social media users, you should ensure that your site is set up and ready to deliver conversion for your efforts. Social media is a powerful means of encouraging user engagement and it can deliver exceptional results for your website in exchange for some time or resources. Have you optimised your site for social media? Do you share content and, if so, has it helped improve your online business results? Let us know below.

SEO Tips for Image Optimization On Any Website

Search engine optimization is the number one factor in getting your page ranked and noticed. This helps to ensure people view your website and that Google and other search engines rank it as a valuable piece of the internet. While most people know about the basics needed to optimize a page many are at a loss as to what to do about images. For a long time many webmasters just left images as they were and didn’t factor them into optimization, but times are changing. Image tags, especially with the advent of image searches, can be useful for SEO purposes, if you know how to use your keywords effectively. Below you will find a few tips and tricks to properly optimizing your images.

File Names

The file name does matter. Many people forget how important file names are when trying to optimize an image. The keyword or keywords should always appear in the file name. Rename any and all files to reflect what thepicture is or what the website is associated with. For example, if you are looking to garner attention about the genetics of eye colors a picture of blue eyes should be named “blue_eyes_genetics.jpg”. This will help grab attention and allow your image to come up in image searches. When image file names are left as a simple string of numbers they will come up muchlower in search engines, if at all.

 Content Connection and Integration

While it seems like a good idea to stuff websites full of images the images should always have some connection to the website content. If you are writing about dog breeds having pictures of sunrises and cars is not going to help you get visitors. Sure, it will gain you some quick viewers, but if you are looking to engage readers your images should be associated with your content. The image and the content must line up for search engine bots to truly crawl the site accurately. Be sure to keep in line with your content regarding the images you choose to host and you will find your site will quickly rise in the rankings. The goal is not to just gain viewers. It is to engage viewers and keep them coming back for more.

 Alt Text

Alt text is how search engine bots figure out what your image is about. You should make sure the alt text is a solid description of what the image is about. If you are using an image as a click through to another page you should make sure the alt text describes the page that the image links too. Strong, descriptive alt text helps search engine bots categorize your images correctly and efficiently. The better the descriptor the quicker your images will be appropriately categorized. Alt texts should contain the important information about the image. If it is a logo image the name of the company plus the word Logo will do the trick.

 Overstuffing Keywords

This tip might seem counterintuitive but it is important not to stuff the anchor text or Alt text with keywords. You want to describe the content and optimize it for your users and search engine bots. Overstuffing the file name, or anchor text with keywords will mess up the algorithm and distract search engine bots. The stuffing of keywords will also make for a difficult viewing experience for your readers. Essentially overexerting your keyword power will do the opposite of what search engine optimization is supposed to do.

Less is More

The final trick is another counterintuitive one; keep your images to a minimum unless you are a photography website. Sure, images look great, but the SEO gods only speak text. Alt text, file names and even Meta tags can help your images gain relevancy, but text always reigns supreme in the land of search engine optimization. Simply put your images should be an accoutrement of your site; it should not be the main star. Armed with these tips and tricks most web master should have no problem optimizing their images in such a fashion that it will actually help their page rank. In the past images seemed unimportant to webmasters, but today images are a serious part of the equation that must be considered.

How to Generate Backlinks Without Dabbling in the Dark Arts

This is guest post by Lisa-Anne Redwood on how to generate backlinks without using blackhat method
There’s been a lot of buzz lately regarding Google’s rankings and the SEO changes that ‘big G’ has been putting in place. Many private backlink networks have now be almost entirely de-indexed by Google. That means that countless websites that were enjoying the heady heights of search rankings are now almost completely invisible to search users. These developments have understandably unnerved legitimate website owners, many of whom may not have kept track of how their backlinks were generated.

But in fact, these changes may actually be a positive thing for these webmasters. Google tends to target those people who use blackhat SEO techniques (read: spammers), but there are still plenty of ways you can generate backlinks whilst keeping your hat very much white in colour. Let’s take a look at a few ways you can create some legitimate backlinks to your blog or website, even since Google’s hammer has come down.

Guest posting on other blogs

It’s an old method, but still arguably the best. Guest blogging on relevant websites and blogs is a fantastic way to get your link out there on the web in a very organic and whitehat way. Whilst the more unscrupulous SEO practitioners may focus their attention on the spamming the comments section of blogs, you can rise above all this by actually being the one writing the articles. All you have to do is contact the owners of blogs or sites like yours and offer to write an article for them – just be sure that it’s good enough and genuinely offers the reader something of value (and of course make sure your link is in context).

 Video backlinks

You may have noticed that Google very often gives precedence to videos in the search results. What this means for bloggers and site owners is that, provided they can come up with compelling content for a video, they can enjoy a new way to create backlinks. When you upload a video to one of the many video streaming sites, you’re often invited to insert a URL either in the video details or description. Very often these links are FOLLOW, which means they’re a legitimate backlink. If your niche allows it, making a video (instructional or informational) can be a great way boost the links back to your site – and if others like it, you may get even more.

Contributing to online communities

Forum posting is another area where blackhatters focus their attention, so you do need to be careful here. One effective method is to spend some time getting to know a community, contributing to the conversation, and then slowly introducing links back to your site. When this is done in a natural way, it can be a fantastic way to create quality backlinks. Just be sure that you are really contributing – and that you’re an authority on the topic – and your blog or site will really benefit.

Getting involved with social media

One of the most valuable ways to reach an audience right now is via social media. That means Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and so on. While the links you’ll get from these sites are NOFOLLOW, posting your content there can help in a number of ways. First, if your social media profiles become reconginised as an authority on your niche, you can use them to share links which others will then link to. When other people choose to link to your content from their site, you’re getting the very best possible backlink – and the ones that truly fit the definition of ‘legitimate’. Social bookmarking sites like Reddit and Digg can also be helpful in this regard, but be careful not to ‘spam’ them because the users on those sites are very particular about what they like and what gets promoted to their respective ‘front pages’.

With Google getting smarter all the time, blog owners and webmasters too have to adapt in terms of their promotion strategy. If you’re still using black or greyhat techniques, it may be time to focus more on whitehat methods that generate quality backlinks – otherwise you’re risking being removed from Google’s index altogether, and for many sites that’s nothing more than a death sentence.

Best way to Study the Value of a Link

link building
Link building is one of the most important things when do SEO for a website . Have you think about buying or trading links with other websites to improving rank in Search Engine ? In this guest post, Brianne will show you the way to study the value of a link and therefore have a good strategy in buying or trading links .

During the older days of internet , websites used to fill the content with a certain keyword to enhance and bolster their rankings in the search engines. The repetition of the word many times throughout the content ensured that the website got placed suitably and had a high ranking in the search engine searches. Such practices compromised with the quality of content.
Now the Google rankings depend on the on-page and off-page factors of SEO and back link form one of the most important off-page factor for SEO rankings. These links are evaluated in terms of the quality and quantity and are the backbone of search engine rankings.

Building and maintaining of links can be important in achieving the desired high rankings in the search results of the search engines. The links made should be of premium quality and should be applicable or the right areas as well. Different links can be of different types and therefore one must analyze the links carefully to achieve the specific results.

Type of link

Links can be of many types but only two are able to influence the rankings. These are the image and the text links. Text links are considered more powerful than image links and therefore they get more preference. Other kinds of links including the JavaScript links are not given any importance by the search engines as the spiders of the search engines cannot read or follow these links in a proper way.

Anchor text

The anchor text can be very crucial in deciding the value of a link. One should not concentrate on the name of the company or website but should include the expected keywords in the anchor text of the back link. This is so because the ranking of the web page depends on the words in the anchor texts of the links which point at the website. More valuable words get higher ranking in the search engine results.

The age of the link page

The age of the link page on the internet is also an important factor to be analyzed and should be studied while deciding the value of the link. Major search engines like Google trust those webpages that have been on the web for a long duration of time.

Incoming and outgoing links

A back link which links to other websites can offer good SEO value and the more direct links are more valuable. The links that are provided on web pages are more authoritative and can offer links of good value. If your site is linked to an authority website that is linked to other websites as well then it is good for the reputation and ranking of your website. The value of the link also depends on the number of outgoing links it has. If a link gets displayed on the page then it calls for more traffic. There are also 'no-follow' links which can be used to increase the traffic but they fail to achieve the values that are set by SEO.

If you are building a website for SEO then you should consider the factors that provide value to links. You can save time by using the SEO tools. Analyzing links can be very essential for those who are launching a new website.

SEO vs. PPC, which is the best to Increase traffic to your site

This guest post is by Brianne Walter
Websites need to mark their presence on the internet to get more traffic. This can be done using appropriate online marketing techniques that serve to promote a given website. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) are two such marketing techniques that are used to draw the attention of the end-user by ensuring that the website is displayed prominently on the result pages of popular search engines such as Bing, Yahoo and Google.

When placed high on the search engine result pages (SERP), the website is automatically bound to be noticed and explored by the visitors, thereby increasing the chances of improving traffic to your site.

Both SEO and PPC work well in getting a website to rank high on the SERP, but they are two totally different marketing approaches targeted however at the same result. The choice of the appropriate technique depends on several factors such as purpose of the website, purpose of the marketing campaign, and the budget allocated for the marketing exercise. Here’s how you can decide which of these techniques is best to increase visitor traffic to your website.

Purpose of the Website

Online marketing varies based on the purpose of the website. If your blog or personal website is simply a form of expression, a casual attempt to connect with the world at large and make friends with the like-minded, SEO is a better option. It is a natural, organic way of gradually reaching out to visitors over a long term through quality and relevant content, building goodwill and reputation in the process.

This is also the preferred technique of veteran websites that look to consolidate and maintain their hard earned high rankings. However, it is difficult for new websites to capture high ranks on SERP instantly. A quick bout of advertising using PPC, a paid marketing service, allows them to figure high on the SERP for a short span, enough to announce their presence.

They can then get back to SEO to build their content for natural ranking, as PPC is quite expensive in the long run when compared to hiring professional support for SEO.

Scope of the Marketing Exercise and Budget

PPC expenses vary based on the exact position of your advertisement on the SERP as well as the trending keywords against which you want the advert to be displayed. This technique is usually used short-term to simply get the attention of the users to your website and is then supplemented with other natural SEO techniques such as content creation, link building, and social media optimization to yield results in the long run. PPC is especially useful for new websites, and those looking to promote seasonal or occasional offers, discounts, sales and other such events that are valid only for a limited time frame.

Long-term PPC is advisable only if the returns outweigh PPC expenses, but you will have to note that you will be spending quite a bit on experimenting with the technique before you learn the ropes.

Conversion rates with systematic organic SEO are bound to be relatively higher than short-term PPC rates. Building trust, quality inbound links, and relevant, unique content right from the very launch of your website will make the site both user and search engine friendly in the long run, to give a high rank and increased traffic. Optimum use of PPC to quickly jog the user’s memory occasionally will help trigger a revisit and spike traffic short-term. Both these techniques go hand-in-hand to improve traffic, but website / marketing purpose and budget are the factors that you should consider while opting for either one of them.

Why Every Programmer Should Learn SEO - and Vice Versa

This article was written by Anthony Benedict.
In the business world that doesn't involve coding, link building, programming, designing, writing for the Internet or one of the many other jobs that can be done with an Internet connection and a decent computer - all these jobs are grouped into one type of position. People with jobs like these are known to outsiders as the "computer people" and many of them think that all of them pretty much do the same things - which can be summed up for the most part as designing websites.

Although all of us that partake in these types of jobs know that this is not at all the case, there should be a little bit of truth to that claim, as every person involved in SEO should be at least a little bit involved in programming - and every programmer (well not every single type of programmer actually) should be at least a familiar with SEO.

Why "SEO's" Should Know a Little bit of Coding/Programming

First of all as an SEO you should know that coding and programming isn’t at all the same thing. There are some very advanced types of programming that you will probably never have the time in your life to learn - and that does not include the basic types of coding like HTML and CSS, although these are two great places to start.

One of the main reasons you should learn about CSS and HTML (and even JavaScript) is that having the best formatting within your coding can tremendously help your SEO. Just like browsers, Google is "likes" light weight coding and its spiders can crawl and read it a lot faster, thus allowing you to get indexed much quicker.

Another reason an SEO should learn a little bit of programming is that it will give you new ideas on how to attack old problems. It will help you learn what you are wasting your time on, what can be automated, and help you to solve your problem on an exponential platform. You don't have to become an expert in the field of programming, but just doing a little bit of dabbling in it will help you get a better idea of sorts of things that can be done that you didn't even think were possible. In fact just a simple conversation with a programmer and seeing what he has to say or what he can do for you will help with that.

Why Programmers Should Learn SEO

Whether you are a web site designer or a hardcore programmer - you should know one thing. There is a lot of money involved in the world of SEO. And since SEO is very much related to what you will be able to do on the computer - designing programs around SEO tactics, needs, services, and even companies. As a freelancing programmer, the world of SEO, link building, and content writing can really give you some great ideas. In fact some SEO businesses are found on great programs that allow SEO's to automate a lot of the tedious work that comes with Internet marketing.

Of course another reason one should learn SEO because owning a website is the best way to market what you are trying to sell. And the best way to market you website is by learning about SEO. Even learning the basics is essential for hiring a company to do all your SEO for you - otherwise you may up over paying for services that may never even pan out.

Being a web developer or programmer with an SEO background, or specializing in Internet marketing with a little bit of a computer science background is a very impressive resume - and many companies (even ones that do not have to do with he Internet) love seeing that type of combination. Being able to have your mind at least somewhat wrapped around both concepts will open many doors for you - whether you are working for a corporation or starting your own business.

SEO tip from Mashable

Mashable
There are many tips for SEO / SERP ,and you can find them easily in internet . In this post ,I just want to add one more tip for you all .This tip is not from me , I got it from Mr Tinh Tran at eblogviet.com  . He wrote in Vietnamese ,so I translated and post it here for you all . I hope it helpful .

If you go to Mashable blog  and see posts, you may notice that they always use short URL for their article ,and the URL contain only main keywords . Title of article maybe long ,but URL always short and focus on main keywords . For example ,there's a post with title “9 Ways to Do Good With 5 Minutes or $25“ but the url is not /9-ways-to-do-good-with-5-minutes-or-25/ as default , it is only /social-good-micro-lending/ .You see ,the URL focus on main keywords .

So what is the secret beyond this tip ? when bots/spiders from search engines crawl a page to index ,they will find main keywords in this page ,start from url to page title ,and continue to the end of post . If your URL short and focus in main keyword, it will help the spiders decrease time to examine the post for indexing ,and make your site a better rank in search result .

How we apply this tip in Blogger ? Very easy ,my friends . At first , write a post title short and focus on main keywords . Publish your post . Now your post is published with a short and SEO friendly URL . After that ,you can back to Dashboard and choose Edit Post ,change the post title to any title you want and publish it again . The first url is still kept while the post title is changed as you want . That's all . It will take only 30s from you but quite good for SEO.
